To offer a new fresh democratic voice, we are thrilled to announce our support for
State Senate, 35th District
"I've lived and worked here my entire life. My values are your values." - Merry C. Garrett
A resident of Tolland for over 20 years, Merry is a proud mother, wife, community volunteer, small business owner, and former insurance department director. She earned a degree in Business Management and a number of professional licenses and certifications from the University of Connecticut and Cornell University.
Merry, who first began working in the tobacco fields of East Windsor as a young teenager, has long been active in our community. She received the U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots Commander Award for six years running, and has volunteered with the Governor’s Prevention Partnership to help implement a children's mentoring program and blood drives for the American Red Cross. Merry continues to regularly volunteer for various local organizations and committees in her hometown of Tolland.
Having lived and worked in our community for decades, Merry knows we deserve better from our current elected leaders in Hartford. Her priorities reflect those of the people of the 35th District, including protecting a woman’s right to choose, reducing taxes for the middle class and seniors, ensuring our schools receive their fair share of state funding, and addressing the current housing crisis through affordable homeownership while maintaining the beauty of our towns.
Merry’s top issues:
Merry will get funding into our district to stop tax increases, stop cuts to vital services and education. We need a Senator willing to do the work to get our fair share of money from the State of CT as other DEMOCRATIC Senators have done in their districts.
Our small regional hospitals lost emergency, maternity and other critical services. Merry is fighting against the constant threat of hospital closures, to reinstate lost emergency and maternity services and to protect medical staff & women's healthcare!
Merry will address the housing crisis by helping local families through inclusive affordable homeownership. Rents are out of control too and she wants to address that crisis.
Our aging population needs help right now. They need resources that improve their quality of life, are QUICK and EASY to access especially for the middle class and family caretakers.
